Tips for healthy hair growth + My weekly hair routine
TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR GROWTH
I get asked a lot about how I get my hair to grow so long, so fast so I thought I would share my hair tips.
These might not work for everyone but they are a game changer for me.
1. Wash Sparingly (SHOWER CAP IS A MUST)
Washing your hair too much strips it of it’s natural oils, dries out your hair, and if you dye your hair it causes the color to fade quicker. I wash my hair 1-2 times a week and always have. I know that some of you have naturally oily hair but you can train it to adjust to less washes, it just takes time. Before you start judging me.. I do shower more than 1-2 times a week and I recently discovered the best thing ever. A SHOWER CAP. Shhhowercap has created new age shower caps for girls who don’t wash their hair often. This way you can shower or bathe without having to put your hair in a bun making it all frizzy before you get out. Y’all, you need this shower cap. Less washes means less blow dries, which means less heat, which means healthy hair, which leads me to my second tip.
2. Heat Protectant
You need to be using a heat protectant on your hair before applying heat. This has been another game changer for me. My favorite one is made by BumbleandBumble and was suggested to me by my hairdresser. I spray it on wet hair as a detangler/ moisturizer when it is damp before blow drying. If I sleep on wet hair, I spray it in the morning before straightening or curling.
3. Collagen Peptides
I could do an entire post on the benefits of Collagen Peptides but I will keep it short. I put a scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides in my coffee every other morning. A lot of people do every morning but I found that doing it everyday was making my hair grow SO FAST – my eyebrows were crazy. Every other day is perfect for me. Collagen is a vital building block of our bodies including skin, hair, nails, bones, and joints. Our bodies produce less collagen with time. I know that a lot of you take Biotin but I have found that collagen works better for me and doesn’t have side effects. If you want to do more research here is there site.
4. Take A Break From Bleach
If you know me, you know I love to dye and bleach my hair. It’s fun to switch it up every now and then but if you are trying to grow/strengthen your hair – maybe you should take a break. I took a break a few years ago and my hair grew SO FAST. Now, I still have to get my roots done because unfortunately at the ripe age of 26 I get grey hair. I use the spray below to hide the greys so that I can go longer in-between hair appts and this has SAVED ME. If you decide to take a break form dying your hair for a bit – don’t forget to still go in every 6-8 weeks for a trim. Split ends will hurt you in your hair growth journey.
Those are 4 of my best hair growth tips. As far as my weekly hair routine – it roughly looks like this. This is probably TMI but I have had friends ask… haha.
Sunday:
Wash + Blow dry before bed
Monday:
Straighten in the morning
Tuesday:
Straighten a little in the morning but it’s pretty much straight from Monday
Wednesday:
Wand it and do loose curls as it is starting to get rough
Thursday:
Touch up the curls a little with wand in the morning and wash/ blow dry Thursday night. Sometimes this is bun day for me. I also deep condition this night.
Friday:
Straight until after work and then probably curled for a night out
Saturday:
I rock second day waves
REPEAT.
